Typographic Sculptures
Brief timeline:
1951: Born and raised in Auburn, Alabama.
1973: Bachelor of Fine Arts from Auburn University, Visual Design major.
1973: Moved to Boston. Began a career in advertising as an Assistant Art Director at Humphrey, Browning, MacDougall.
1976: Moved to Atlanta. Art Director at McDonald & Little.
1976-1994: Art Director/Graphic Designer for ad agencies (including my own, Corley & Day) and companies in Atlanta and the southeast, working for clients as diverse as the MSPCA, Rubbermaid, CNN, Chiquita and The Atlanta Ballet.
1994: Started to design and build functional art pieces that were accepted into the American Craft Council Shows.
1994-2006: One hand in designing and building things, the other hand doing freelance art direction and graphic design.
2007-today: Moved to Loachapoka. Enjoying life as a visual artist, graphic designer, gardener and animal lover.
Honors for my Art Direction and Graphic Design:
My art direction won numerous awards in the advertising industry, including these: The Art Director’s Annual Gold Award,
One Show Gold Award, The Advertising Club of New York Andy Award of Excellence, Show South Gold Award, National Gold
Addy, along with many Silver and Bronze Addys. I’ve also been honored to have my advertising art direction and design
work published in several industry books and publications such as Communication Arts and Print Regional Design Annuals.

June, 2008: Letters & Numbers Show, Jan Dempsey Art Center, Auburn, AL.
Feb., 2009: Found Objects I, invitational group show, Jan Dempsey Art Center, Auburn, AL.
June, 2009: Sculptures selected to be in the national juried exhibition, “Resurrect: The Art of the Reclaimed Object.”
Mesa Contemporary Arts Center, Mesa, AZ.
July, 2009: Invited to exhibit sculptures in Atlanta at Typecon2009, an annual international industry conference.
Aug., 2009: Featured on Print magazine’s blog, “The Daily Heller.”
Feb., 2010: Feature article about the sculptures appeared in
the Feb. 2010 issue of HOW Design, the leading
creativity, business and technology magazine for
graphic designers.
